The little troll girl Trille is eager to see the world. While her older brothers are out doing just that, Trille sits at home pondering philosophical questions. But one day her brothers forget to put out the magic hearth, where all the fairytales are forged. A whimsical goblin visits, and suddenly Trille is forging her own fairytales. And once she gets started, nothing is ever going to be the same again.

Trollprinsen (eng. Prince of the Trolls) is a fairytale about freedom, being acknowledged and finding the one. The story, with its goblins and elves, princes and princesses, magic, love and evil is inspired by folk tales and the sagas. But mostly, it is about trolls. Trolls are often portrayed as big, strong, stupid and ugly. Sometimes they are kind and loveable, but in general they are dangerous creatures that eat humans. With this performance the trolls finally get the opportunity to tell their side of the story.

Per Zanussi composed the original music for the performance.

Trollprinsen combines circus and theatre in a thrilling performance for the whole family, with Norwegian actors on the floor, and circus artists from Swedish and Canadian companies such as Cirque de Soleil, Robert Lepage and Cirkus Cirkör in the air.
Trollprinsen was created at Haugesund Teater in 2003, and performed in Hunderfossen Family Park in Lillehammer in the summer of 2003.
It opened again at Det Norske Teatret November 12 2004, and got raving revues. Trollprinsen also ran in December the following year.
In 2006, Trollprinsen received the highest award in the Norwegian theatre world, the Hedda award.
